George Hadjimichalis & Margarita Myrogianni / Tom Sawyer
Eleftheria Tseliou gallery is happy to invite you to the first show for the new season, opening Tuesday October 11, under the title ' Tom Sawyer '. ' Tom Sawyer ' is a dual / collaborative show by George Hadjimichalis and Margarita Myrogianni. The show will be on display at the gallery until the 12th of November, 2016.
The main subject of this show is the whitewashing of the big fence, a landmark in Mark Twain's novel 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer'. The two artists, who collaborate for the first time, have constructed and installed for this occasion the fence in the artist's studio, where they engaged in the process of whitening it.
'Tom Sawyer'- the show - explores the limits between the fence that Tom Sawyer's friends painted for him, turning this way punishment into a joyful and profitable experience, and a work of Art today.
Myrogianni photographs the changes on the surface of the fence as it gets whitened, while Hadjimichalis approaches the same subject matter in a purely painterly way.
The actual fence - a common work by the two artists-, an extract from the film 'Tom Sawyer' of 1917 by William Desmond Taylor and a photograph of Tom Sawyer at the age of 35 are also going to be on display.
