Eleftheria Tseliou gallery is happy to present Leonidas Papadopoulos third solo show. The show opens on Thursday, October 2 and will be on display until the 8th of November, 2014.
In his previous solo exhibition David’s hand was pointing. As always, a hand points and judges, but the heart listens, keeps beatting and resists.
What dominates this show, is the favourite material, which characterises Leonidas Papadopoulo’s work, the polyester resin, is a long series of sculptured hearts. These hearts together with other organs, bring photographic memories, while they are carried on the back of female figures. Figures, which as a continuation of the old cycladic forms, are transformed into contemporary Caryatids, carrying the heart as a back bag, instead of carrying the temple on their head.
The hand of justice resurfaces like a motif, showing four kids. This time, the Army caps, old memories of a state para-state of power, essence and immunity, break into pieces. However the heart of this art doesn’t even crack. It resists and keeps beating to the rythme of the events. Despite the blackness of the events, despite the fact that the heart became black itself.
